Walter Grootveld appointed Chief Transition Officer of Enexis Groep

9 Jun 2026

The Supervisory Board (SB) has appointed Walter Grootveld (46) as Chief Transition Officer (CTO) on the Executive Board of Enexis Groep with effect from 1 September. Walter succeeds Jeroen Sanders, who left Enexis in March of this year. In recent years, Walter worked at Essent as Director of Energy Infrastructure Solutions.

Walter began his career at TNT Group and went on to hold various positions at Essent over the past 14 years. During that time, he was, among other things, responsible for developing more customer-oriented ways of working. In recent years, Walter led the Infrastructure Solutions business unit. In that role, close cooperation with market parties and government authorities was essential to implementing effective and innovative solutions in the areas of security of supply, grid congestion and sustainability in the built environment and across a range of business sectors.

Jos Nijhuis (Chairman of the Supervisory Board): “I am very delighted that Walter is joining Enexis. With his broad experience in commercial Customer Interaction, Infrastructure, and Innovation within and outside the energy sector, we believe we have found a great addition to the existing Executive Board. In recent years, we have expanded the power grid by a record capacity. However, demand for electricity continues to grow faster than we can expand the grid. This makes it necessary to accelerate the innovation we have initiated, in order to create as much capacity as possible in other ways and make optimal use of all available capacity, together with our customers and stakeholders. With his background, Walter will be of great added value in this regard.”

Walter Grootveld: “The energy transition is one of the defining challenges of our time, and Enexis plays a crucial role in addressing it. I have great respect for what the company has achieved in recent years and for the contribution it makes to a more sustainable Netherlands. I am honoured to join Enexis as CTO and look forward to working with colleagues, customers, partners and stakeholders to continue building a reliable, affordable and future-proof energy system that remains accessible to everyone. I am also eager to use my experience to help further accelerate the energy transition.”

The Central Works Council and the Shareholders' Committee both delivered a positive opinion on Walter’s appointment as CTO.
